If you are not happy, however, we promise to work with you to resolve any issue you may have.īecause our tables are handmade, using only 100% natural hardwoods, the exact final size and thickness of each table will differ. This should be expected with a natural product and we believe these variations are part of the charm. Distressed and Sandblasted finishes will have a rustic elegance and will feature small imperfections that make each piece unique. ![]() Your table will have unique characteristics, such as grain, color variations, and natural irregularities. Very thick slabs will require several years to fully acclimate – but they are generally very stable due to their size. Until your table acclimates to your environment, which can take 12 months (all four seasons), it’s possible that your table may experience modest shrinkage or expansion that you will probably never notice. As a natural, organic product with naturally occurring irregularities such as color, grain patterns, and knots, solid wood will respond to changes in environmental conditions such as humidity and direct sunlight. Wood preparation is very important, all of our wood is kiln-dried to international furniture specifications. Do not confuse “solid wood” with the 100% solid hardwood used by TableCo, and other honest, high-end furniture makers. The term “solid wood”, frequently used by our competitors, does not guarantee 100% hardwood – plywood and pressed board is considered “solid wood”, as that term is increasingly used. Unlike many mass-market manufacturers and retailers, our furniture is made only from the hardwoods we feature we never use plywood, veneer, MDF, synthetics, or inexpensive fast-growing softwoods. We primarily use Thai/Burmese Teak, North American Red and White Oak, and old-growth Cham-Cha (Siam Acacia). The Table Company makes only 100% solid, hardwood furniture. ![]() If you have idiopathic cramps – that is, cramps where there’s no underlying health condition or physiological stimulus – the most common treatment is to do stretching exercises that stop a cramp once it’s started and exercises to help prevent having recurrent cramps (see below). You can learn more about restless leg syndrome - from causes to prevention - in our guide. If you experience irresistible urges to keep moving your legs, you might now be experiencing leg cramps, but rather restless leg syndrome. They’re also very common in pregnancy, possibly because of the extra weight putting pressure on muscles nerves and blood vessels (some also believe low levels of calcium and magnesium in pregnancy may cause leg muscle spasms).Īnother thing that may trigger paraphysiological cramps in the foot is wearing high heels, especially where the toes become stuck in a cramped position for long periods of time, forcing them into spasm. Some experts believe low levels of substances called electrolytes – such as magnesium, calcium sodium and potassium – or dehydration may trigger cramps too. ![]() Paraphysiological cramps, meanwhile, affect healthy people but are caused by a physiological stimulus, the best example of which is exercise (leg cramps are common while playing sports). Muscle cramps can also be a symptom of opiate drug withdrawal. Several types of medicines also cause leg cramps, including diuretics (often used to treat high blood pressure), statins (cholesterol-lowering drugs), raloxifene (a treatment for osteoporosis), nifedipine (used to treat angina and Raynaud’s phenomenon), nicotinic acid (a drug used to treat high cholesterol), and the asthma drugs salbutamol and terbutaline. If you have acute or chronic diarrhoea or you’re a heavy drinker of alcohol, these things can also cause leg cramps. Symptomatic cramps are a symptom or complication of a health condition, including liver disease, a neurological condition such as motor neurone disease or peripheral neuropathy, lead or mercury poisoning or an untreated underactive thyroid gland (hypothyroidism). Idiopathic cramps are the most common type – these happen for no apparent reason. ![]() There are different types of cramps, depending on what’s causing them: You can also get cramp in your feet, hands, arms, abdomen and the muscles along the ribcage – though the leg muscles are the most affected. ![]() The muscle most commonly affected is the calf muscle (gastrocnemius), but the muscle at the front of your thigh (quadriceps) and back of your thigh (hamstrings) are also prone to spasms. The cramp is caused by a muscle spasm, which happens when a muscle contracts (shortens) suddenly. But if you’re getting older, you’re more likely to have them more often – according to the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) a third of the over-60s experience cramps when they’re at rest, with 40 per cent saying they have three or more attacks per week (ii). Many people have a cramp in their leg occasionally, with up to 60 per cent of adults thought to have had leg cramps at night at some point or other (i). In some cases, the affected muscle can also feel sore and tender for up to 24 hours following a cramp. And while for some people they only last a few seconds, others may be in pain for up to 10 minutes. Thankfully, leg cramps are usually harmless, but if you’ve ever had one, you’ll be all too aware of how painful they can be. If you’ve ever woken up in the middle of the night with an excruciating pain in your leg or foot, there’s a good chance you know what leg cramps feel like. ![]() ![]() In the corner of the living room, between a fireplace and the sliding glass door to the patio, sits a turntable with stacks of records leaning against it. One such man, Abelardo Juanz, and now his descendants, operate one of the longest running Chinese restaurants in Hermosillo, Restaurante Abelardo, where chop suey is one of the most beloved dishes. As most were male, intermarriage with Mexican women occurred, and many integrated into the community. Pockets of Chinese immigrants remained within Sonora, even after the forced expulsions. Or for Anglo capitalists, but absolutely not for the Chinese. It is not without irony that the anti-Chinese sentiment in Mexico in the late 19th and early 20th centuries so very much mirrors the anti-Mexican sentiment felt in the United States for so long, even mirrored by the expulsion of Chinese immigrants from Mexico in the 1930s. ![]() Mexico was for Mexicans- so said the slogan of the time. The political discourse of the time both praised the great ability of Chinese laborers despite their small stature and weak appearance, then quickly pivoted to decry their predilection for gambling and vices of all kinds, declaring a need to protect Mexican women from them, lest they be corrupted. Unfortunately, it was not only Chinese labor that was imported into Sonora, but anti-Chinese sentiment as well. There was a need for cheap and plentiful labor to lay railroad tracks, cut tunnels through mountains and dig precious metals out of mines. The story of Chinese immigration into northern Mexico is much the same as their story in the western United States. What's interesting is that this dish doesn’t have much of a home presence in American households the way it does in Sonora, and even in Mexico, this homecooked noodle dish is limited mostly to home kitchens in Hermosillo, much in the same way a taste for root beer and hot dogs was left behind due to foreign investment, mining and railroads. Yes, the same chop suey found in every Chinese-American restaurant from coast to coast. However, this noodle dish is just as typical of Hermosillo as the world famous Sonoran doggos.
